Scooter

Libby Hi, I'm Scooter, and I was recently in a bad accident and I have to have surgery to repair both of my back legs. A nice lady picked me up on the side of the highway and contacted a lady named Misty with Russell Rescue in Tennessee to help. She thinks I had been hit by a car, but I don't remember much about it except that it hurt really bad and I was alone and afraid.

Libby

Libby Hi! My name is Libby and I am not quite three months old. I was surrendered to the Arlington, TX shelter as a stray. Not sure how that happened. I would never run off. I was injured when the shelter received me. Then, someone stepped on me at the shelter. Now, I was really in a fix.

Bernie

Bernie Hi! My name is Bernie. I was a stray and picked up by the Fort Worth TX shelter. Something happened to my leg. I can not really remember but I think a car or truck hit me. It is all kind of blurred. Miss Ginger Leach at the Fort Worth Shelter called my foster Mom with RRI. Miss Ginger told my foster Mom I was a good dog that gave her kisses. She also sent a pic of me to her. My foster Mom liked my looks and came to visit with me at the shelter.

Woody

Woody He is doing so much better with sharing his toys and dental bones. Woody is a gem of a dog. Please don't pass him up because of his age being 7 years. A Jack Russell lives quite longer than other breeds. You would not know that Woody is 7. Actually 7 is young for a Jack Russell. Woody loves being with other dogs, cats and people. He gets along with our 3 outside cats; Woody knows that they are part of our pack.

Lola

Lola This 2 yr old female JRT was brought into the emergency vet clinic in Brandon FLA . After she was found limping and wandering around by a good Samaritan. She was scanned for a mirco chip but had none. The vet examined the dog only to find her leg swollen with out any feeling in it. There was a small area on her leg that appeared to be a spider bite the vet explored the bite only to find that the leg was full of gangrene. This girl had a high fever from the infection she was put on IV fluids and a painkiller. the vet stabilized her and the good Samaritan went home to find help for this girl. He contacted a FLA RRI rep Aude Sumner and she contacted the vet to offer help. Her treatment lasted throughout the night. Aude was called by the vet and was told the leg was so bad it had to be amputated.

Zoey

Zoey My name is Zoey. I am a Jack Russell girl living with my foster mom Olga in Houston, Texas. Even though I look perfect I am not. I can barely walk on my back legs. Every step is agony. My foster mom noticed that I could not walk more than a couple of steps without lifting my back legs up - first one, then the other. I just skipped and hopped along. She took me to a really nice vet named Dr. Powell. He said I had luxating patella in both legs. I don't have any idea what that means. I just know that my legs hurt all the time. I have to have surgery on both of my back legs. Olga is very worried because Dr. Powell is going to do both legs at one time!! The surgery is scheduled for Monday, April 9th.

Mikah

Mikah My name is Mikah, I am two years old. I was rescued from a kill shelter in Sarasota, Florida. RRI took me in a couple of months ago. My first Foster Mom could not keep me and I almost got returned to the shelter. But the call went out to the Florida RRI volunteers to save me and my current Foster Mom said I could stay with her and her pack until I got well enough to find my own family. But it seems I have some major health problems. While I certainly do not act like it, I have a severe case of heartworms, they are so large, they are causing my heart to pump poorly. I am a tri color, very handsome JRT, broken coat with black spots and a perfect tail!

Jetson (ADOPTED)

Jetson Digger Jetson (DJ), at the tender age of five months, ended up at the Fort Worth Animal Control. He was confused and scared, but tried to wait patiently for his family to come and take him home. But, they didn't come and pretty soon DJ started to feel kind of sick. He stopped eating and his stomach hurt and he got sicker. Within 48 hours of arriving at a Ft. Worth shelter, he was in isolation and the nice shelter folks were saying words in whispers like "parvo" and "fever" and "no one to give him medical care."

Duke

Duke Duke is back in the rescue at no fault of his own, as he is a very sweet and independent Jack. His adoptive parents have come to some crossroads and unable to attend to their dogs at this time. So, with a heavy heart, they have given Duke back to us in hopes to find another loving home. Duke loves to play ball and with stuffed toys, he loves to take naps – especially under the covers with his foster parents. He likes to have baths and go on walks. He is crate and house trained, up to date on his vaccines and neutered. Out of all the Jacks we have personally fostered, he is truly low maintenance and independent. I truly enjoy having him here in our household and he gets along famously with our other Jacks.

Missy

Missy Sandy, the Virginia RRI reppresentative, received a call from the Animal Hospital of Waynesboro about Missy - an 11 month old, female JRT that swallowed a foreign object and needed emergency surgery since it had cut her esophogus. Sandy and Nickee mobilized immediately and drove Missy to Virginia Tech where they plan to do additional x-rays since they can't see what has caused the damage.

Thank you all my wonderful Russell Rescue friends for your kindness! I am doing extremely well and will get my stomach tube and stitches out this week. Meghan, my foster Momma has been so good to me. She's had to feed me special food through my stomach tube and also just a little bit in the normal way. I can hardly wait 'til I can eat ALL my food normally -- it tastes SOOOOO good! As you can see, I'm feeling really happy and alert now thanks to all of you! Love, Missy.

Tippy

Tippy Tippy is a 6 year old female JRT from the desert area of southern California. When she was about a year old, her breeder took her back from an abusive home, had her neutered and gave her to a man and his wife. Tippy loved the man, especially, and slept with him every night. The man’s wife contacted Russell Rescue in the fall of 2005, a few months after her husband had passed away, and asked Russell Rescue to take Tippy as she no longer had room for her since her daughter and 2 grandchildren had moved into her 5th-wheel trailer to live with her.

As you already know, Tippy can no longer see. We pursued several additional tests, including ultrasounds of her eye, which showed that her retina had detached in a couple of places. After consulting with an expert recommended by our eye vet we decided that it was not worth putting Tippy through two major surgeries for only a 20% chance of regaining any vision. And I am happy to report, we made the right decision. Tippy is doing so well!

Sophie

Sophie Sophie is a 6 year old JRT from Florida. Her family has a 2-year-old toddler who is not very nice to the dog. The Saturday previous to Memorial day, the dog ran away without the owner's knowledge, and when the dog came back she was limping. The emergency vet was certain she was hit by a car -- it caused her hip to come out of the socket (subluxating hip) ... the vet popped the hip back in, but it came out the next day. The vet informed the owners surgery would be required to remove the ball of the femur. They owners decided they couldn't afford to fix the dog and have given her up to Russell Rescue. Sophie is looking for a home in Florida once she recovers from her surgery.

Rather than removing the ball of the femur, as expected, the vet was able to rebuild the socket around Sophie's hip and pin the bones into place. She presently has her injured leg bandaged to her body to immobilize it. Lynda, her foster mom, has to carry her in and out to do her business, but Sophie doesn't seem to mind. She is a very loving girl and enjoys spending time with her foster mom.

Lynda has adopted Sophie so she now has a permanent home. Congrats!

Allie

Allie ALLIE is a 8 - 10 month old female who came from a local Virginia shelter. She was rushed to the emergency hospital with severe diarrhea and the possibility of either parvo or a massive case of worms. The hospital was able to stabilize Allie and she is responding well to medication.

Hello my Russell Rescue friends. Here I am, snoozing w/ my new friend, Ginger, while Momma Sandy is at the computer. I'm doing ever so much better! I'm getting around really well, am starting to run a bit and have even figured out how to get through the doggie door. I've discovered balls - my friend Rocky chases them -- I just chew them! Thank you again for being so kind as to help with my doctor's bills. As you can see, I'm finally gaining weight and am feeling very frisky these days! Love, Allie.

Chewy

Chewy Chewy's surgery healed exceptionally well. His personality flourished with a tiny bit of discipline and lots of good loving'! About the time that we were going to our final vet visit to take out stitches, an adoption application came in from the best home a little jack could ask for. These folks had adopted a very special terrier about a year ago from us, named Edgrr. When they applied for a brother or sister for Edgrr, I immediately thought of Chewy. Within a week the meeting was set up and they drove out here to the farm and Edgrr and Chewy ran around and around till I thought they would drop! Chewy went home with them and they are all moving to several acres out in the country. They promised me a family portrait as soon as they get unpacked.

Taz

Taz Hi Everyone, I wanted to write to say that I am doing great. I am trying to stay cool cause it sure gets hot. I have gained more weight and muscle. My mommy says that I look so good. She calls me her "boy". I think that means that I am special. My mommy and daddy really do love me. Did I tell you that I get to go for rides in the car with my mommy? She is home more now and when she goes visiting, I sometimes get to go. Mommy says that I ride real good in the car. We had a foster Jack Russell come stay with us for a little while. I really do miss her. She was great. We played and played and played.

Blinky

Blinky Hi, my name is Blinky, and I am about three years old. I was found wandering the streets of Bradenton, FL. A very kind woman saw that I was injured, picked me up, and took me to a vet. The vet determined that I had an ulcerated cornea and that my eye injury would most likely not heal. I was put on some antibiotics and turned over to Animal Control with hopes that my owner would come pick me up.

Guess what??? No, I didn't get a glass eye. Something better than that, I got adopted! I have my forever home. I managed to work my charm on my foster mom, and she finally decided that I was meant to live with them. I have two sister Jacks, one brother black Lab, four cats, two horses, some fish, and some geckos. And of course, there are the foster dogs--right now, it's Mickey, who is being treated for heartworms, and Casey, who has only one eye, too. You can see check them out on the website, and they are both looking for their forever homes.

Pip

Pip Hey Everyone! I know you haven't heard from me in a while, but I have been so busy in my forever home. I finished my physical therapy, and I am doing 100% better. My leg still gets a little sore if I play too hard, but it's getting better and better everyday. My mama has become the Tennessee rep for Russell Rescue, and there have been many cool JRTs come through our house. I have had so many other dogs to play with including my brother and sister dogs, Jax and Zeta. The picture you see is of me and my mama on a fishing trip on the Tennessee River by our house. I loved riding on the boat. It was so much fun. I got to see my first fish up close and he was as big as me. I didn't really know what to think of him. He smelled really bad. My mama also had a basket put on the back of her bicycle that has a dog harness built in so that I can ride with her. Me and my siblings take turns going on the bike rides with her. We also had a opossum get in the basement last week. My siblings and I barked like crazy at the vents in the floor, and mom couldn't figure out why. Then one night when she came home from dinner, she saw the opossum in the driveway. Her dad set a trap to catch it, and then turn it loose in the woods. We begged her to let us play with him, but she didn't think that was a very good idea. Oh well. Maybe next time. I hope you all are having a great fall. The weather is great here, and I am loving life right now.

Arby / "Bogie"

Arby Just a quick note to let you know that I am doing well in my new home. I have a new Jack Russell brother and one brother and one sister Springer Spaniels to cuddle up with at night, as well as three cat sisters. I am still trying to figure out why I get yelled at when I try to chase the cats. I just want to play, but my new Mom and Dad keep telling me not to run around as my legs are still healing.

Jackie

Jackie Hello! I just wanted to let you know that everything is okay with me! And I hope everything is going well for all my friends out there too. I've been swimming and digging and getting muddy and catching frogs. See how muddy I am! I'm maintaining my weight, and my Valley Fever titer keeps going down -- the vet says this is good. We got some baby goats and I've been chasing them, except they are bigger than me even though they are dwarf goats, so sometimes they butt me with their hard little heads and then I run away. It is great fun. Sometimes we all run around in a big herd. Well, a big herd of seven. I am the littlest goat. The only thing they can do that I can't is jump onto the roof of their little house, but just wait!

Patrick

Mom tells me I am not going to Nationals this year. BUMMER!!!! I am going to miss all my buddies and all the fun! Shoot!!!

She tried to make me feel better by taking us to Bob Evans Farm Autumn Festival where Annie almost stole some man's maple sucker away from him. She almost got it too!!!! We got to meet Auntie Susie and lots of other people who came by her booth. Everything smelled so good - apples and maple everything. Lots of people brought their pooches. We even saw a couple of other Jack Russells too.
