Digger Jetson (DJ) started out in life as a cute little Jack Russell Terrier puppy. He did all the things regular JRT puppies do. He dug in the grass and chewed up stuff, barked at the birds and bees, and sometimes, the evil, annoying cat next door. His family thought he was just precious and they laughed at his funny ways and applauded his digging, "look how strong he is! And determined!" They thought he was just great.
However, they didn't think he was great enough, or important enough, to get any shots. They didn't train him; they didn't teach him the importance of staying at home. So DJ, at the tender age of five months, ended up at the Fort Worth Animal Control. He was confused and scared, but tried to wait patiently for his family to come and take him home. But, they didn't come and pretty soon DJ started to feel kind of sick. He stopped eating and his stomach hurt and he got sicker. Within 48 hours of arriving at a Ft. Worth shelter, he was in isolation and the nice shelter folks were saying words in whispers like "parvo" and "fever" and "no one to give him medical care."
And then a miracle happened. One of the nice shelter officers called a friend who is a RUSSELL RESCUE agent. "He needs to get out. He's going to die. He's got 24 hours. He's only 5 or 6 months old. Please, please, can you save him?" So Wendy Palmer and Cson Johnson got together and DJ was rescued. He went to a nice, clean clinic and they put things in his little arms and dropped things down his sore throat and let him sleep and rest. The doctors came in and the techs came in and everyone loved him. They thought he was so, so handsome, and said things like "What a handsome boy!! Isn't he the cutest boy, ever!!!?" DJ didn't exactly understand, because he was still pretty sick, but he understood the kindness in their eyes and the gentle touches on his sore body and aching head.
DJ's SNAP test for parvo came back positive. But, by then, he had been treated for five days with antibiotics and fluids, thanks to the pro-active vets and techs at the Family Pet Clinic in Richardson, Texas. Within two weeks, he was out of isolation and eating. After a couple of more "rest days" and meds, he was walking behind the clinic, on real grass!
Today, DJ remains in foster with Cson Johnson and plays with Whimsy and Cson's boys, Ethan and Dylan . When he is ready, DJ will be placed in a new "forever home", where he can dig and chew and play, and be a Jack Russell puppy once again.
DJ wants to give everyone at Russell Rescue a big, big doggy kiss for saving his life.
Progress updates are posted below.

July 9 - From Robyn, Texas Rescue Representative
My foster mom, Cson says I am a is a beautiful mover. Huh?? She also thinks I might have been bred for show, and have a great coat. (Is that like a jacket? Geezzz, Mom, it's to hot for coats!)
DJ's health continues to improve. He is playing with other dogs and his best friend is a young female Pit Bull terrier. DJ is showing a fairly high prey drive and will work a fence, so we know he is getting his health back. He is a sweet boy who wants to be friends with everyone.
The vet has determined that DJ's case of Parvo was not severe. It was diagnosed within hours of his becoming ill. The vets began treating him aggressively with IV fluids and meds even before the SNAP test came back positive. They stated that his (previous) good health and youth were factors in his quick recovery. DJ is about 6 months old.
