Last Update: Nov 6, 2010
Location: Texas
Dog Name: Julep
Sex: Female
Age: Unknown
Known Issues: Injured Shoulder
Background

Hi there, I'm Julep from Texas and something terrible happened to me. I can't tell you how it happened since I can't speak, but my left shoulder got injured around June 5th and I haven't been able to put weight on it since then. I ended up in a shelter before Russell Rescue was contacted to save me. I am incredibility sweet even though I am in a lot of pain. My favorite things include rolling around in the grass, laying on the cold floor and being with people. I'm hoping to have surgery soon and then find a forever home that I can be loved on and adored forever. As soon as my surgery is over, more updates will be posted. Keep in touch and feel free to email my foster if you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application.

Progress updates are posted below.

November 6 - From Jules

After 4 months of rehab I am finally home forever. My new family is amazing and they have a turtle I sit and watch all day. There is a doggie door, a German Short-haired Pointer to play with and lots of hugs and kisses. My owner is a certified dog massage therapist, so my shoulder is getting all the attention and care I can get. I'm free and ready for life! Thank you to all who helped in my journey and please remember to donate to Russell Rescue when you can, they took great care of me and I want other JRTs to have the same opportunity at life that I did.

Gotta run- Love to all- Jules

FREEDOM...ok, not really, but it was a step in the right direction. Today I got to SWIM. Oh how I love to swim. I walked onto the beach entry of the pool, hesitated a second and jumped into the cool water. I was on a leash and got to swim around for a bit. After each lap I would take a break on the beach entry before jumping into the water again. I didn't over do it, but it was time for me to start stretching my legs without the stress of hitting the pavement. I took a nap in my kennel and then got to walk all the way to the end of the street. Most of the time I only get to go halfway, but today was different. I had a male jrt buddy with me and we were happy to be out cruising the street with my foster. They say I am doing so well and soon will find a home. People are emailing about me, but no one has come to visit yet. But guess what, I'm ready, so let's get together. Remember, I will need some rehab, so it would be best if you had time to help me out. I am just a sweet sweet doll and just love attention. Until later--- xoxo Jules

July 9 - From Jules

Hi friends. Jules here. My foster family calls me Jules, they think I'm pretty as can be and I like the nickname. I had my surgery and got my stitches out. My foster family let me walk around the pool after surgery. The other dogs were in the pool, so I jumped in too. Did I mention that I am fearless! They quickly grabbed me even though I was swimming just fine. They said that my stitches needed to come out and I can't swim with them in. Darn. I went to the doctor 2 weeks after surgery and he said "Jules, no activity except to potty outside for 6 more weeks." I don't understand the 6 weeks part; I just heard the 'no activity' and got bummed. Oh well, I get fresh towels in my kennel every few days and I have a long kennel to snooze in. My kennel is in the front game room and the sun shines in daily. I get to see my foster family come in and out during the day. They are teachers so they are home for the summer. I get out on a leash a few times a day and they love to pull weeds while I would rather roll around on my back in the grass, it feels so good. OH OH OH....if you have one of those 'ice machines' in your house, be aware they can hurt you. I try to protect my foster family when they walk up to get ice, I bark and bark, but they keep dumping ice in their cups. So the other day it was time for my heartworm pill. My foster family gave it too me and oh my tummy hurt for a day. I kept coughing up these icky worms. They said the ivermectin killed the roundworms in my tummy. I'm all better now, but oh it was gross. The shelter said they 'dewormed' me, but I guess it wasn't enough. My foster family cleaned up my kennel and will keep me on some meds for bit and I will be ok. That is what happens when doggies come from shelters. My foster family says someone is coming to meet me this weekend--I might get adopted. Of course, I have 6 more weeks in a kennel, so my adopted family has to be aware of that and keep me quiet. My foster family says they aren't sure if they will let me go to a home just yet, just to be safe. More later, I just got a kong with frozen peanut butter in my kennel, my favorite...gotta go.

Love, Jules
