Update on Lacy!

You will remember that we recently welcomed back to Russell Rescue this beautiful little senior lady whose name is Lacy.  She was adopted 4-5 years ago.  Unfortunately, Lacy’s owner passed away recently and there was not a good place for Lacy to go.  She returned to her previous Russell Rescue foster mom.  She has been settling in and acclimating to her new life.

Lacy had her dental cleaning done a few days ago.  Thank you for your generous donations that made it possible!  About 10 teeth were pulled and she had to have sutures in her gums.  She was not feeling too great right after her procedure, but she’s SO much better now!  Those rotten teeth needed to come out of there!  Lacy is pretty hard of hearing and she was diagnosed with cataracts.  But she’s playful and still has that typical JRT feisty personality.  Lacey is happy and feels good now.  She is ready to find her forever home!

Anyone interested in adopting Lacy can apply here and the Rescue Coordinator will contact you.  We do not ship our dogs, so Lacy’s new owner will need to travel to San Antonio, Texas to get her.

Welcome to Russell Rescue – Rocket!

Welcome to the Russell Rescue family!  This cutie is Rocket and he’s 2 years old!  He is in foster care in Toledo, Ohio.  He is a very friendly little guy.  Very high energy.  Very happy.  That’s about all we know about him so far.  His vet visit is in a few days.  In the meantime he is hanging around with his foster mom and trying to play with everyone.  This is what she says about Rocket so far: “He’s not a barker, gets along with others, listens well, loves people.“

Rocket’s full biography and adoption requirements will be posted soon.  Anyone with interest in adopting Rocket can apply to adopt here and the Rescue Coordinator for Rocket will contact you once the application is received.  We don’t ship/transport our dogs, so the approved adopter must travel to Toledo, Ohio to get him, and we prefer to place Rocket in Ohio or surrounding states so he is close to our volunteer network.

Rest in Peace, Mango.

We have some sad news to share with you.  We have lost our little rescue dog, Mango.  He was adopted from Russell Rescue in the Fall of 2020.  He developed a lump on the side of his cheek and it turned out to be inoperable cancer.  He was lost and wandering around the streets of San Antonio, Texas in the spring of 2020.  The kind young man who picked him up asked us to take him.  Robyn and Sandra, two of our long time volunteers/fosters, picked him up and he went into foster care with our foster Kelly in San Leon, Texas.  He was adopted by a wonderful woman, Carina, who made him the center of her world.  Despite all the love and vet care the world could offer, Mango could not stay.  He crossed the Rainbow Bridge in Carina’s arms on May 12th, 2022.  Go with God, Mango.  Your Russell Rescue family and your mom will see you again one day.

Welcome to Russell Rescue – Roscoe!

Welcome Welcome Welcome to Roscoe!  Isn’t he just the most adorable little guy you have ever seen!  He was rescued from a shelter in Oklahoma last week.  He is about 1 ½ years old.  He’s a rough coat, shorty Jack Russell Terrier.  So far he is very sweet, friendly and very agreeable.  He is a little snuggle bug!  That’s really all we know about him so far.  We will learn more about him in the days to come and have a better idea of what type of adoptive home he will require.

Roscoe is being fostered in the Dallas, Texas area.  Anyone interested in this adorable scruffy little guy can apply to adopt here and someone will contact you.  We do not ship our dogs, so Roscoe’s new owner will need to travel to Dallas, Texas to get him.  We hope to place Roscoe in Texas or a surrounding state so he remains close to our volunteer network.

Welcome to Russell Rescue, Inc. Roscoe!  We are going to find you the BEST home!

Barkley – Happy Tails!

Barkley came to Russell Rescue in September of 2021. This guy had been living outside, and didn’t know what it was like to be spoiled or loved. He didn’t know about couches, laps, and snuggles in soft blankets. Barkley found an amazing home last Fall. As you can see from the video and pics, he’s definitely figured out what couches and snuggles are all about! Barkley’s mom is amazing and she is teaching him all kinds of neat things. He recently won the small dog division recall race! And he’s starting level 2 obedience classes soon. Barkley is so smart and loves all the new attention from Mom. He had his photo made with the Easter Bunny last week and wanted to share with us.

Also, did you know Jack Russells can sing? Well, Barkley can! Check out the video! From streets and shelters, to couches and laps!! This is what rescue is all about! Happy Tails Barkley!

Addie: Happy Tails

We just love Happy Tails stories around here!  This one comes from Kathy.  She is Addie’s mom.  Read their heartwarming story below.  Thank you Kathy, for sharing the photos and story with us!  And thank you for giving Addie a wonderful, forever family!  Happy Tails Addie!  We are so happy for you!

“Addie is an amazing little dog!  She was found as a stray in Oklahoma and placed in foster care with Russell Rescue.  After saying goodbye to my 12 year old Corgi, I swore I’d never go through that heartbreak again, but after a few months I couldn’t take the quietness in our home anymore.  I started by looking at local breeders, but by chance I found Russell Rescue online and realized how many misplaced dogs are looking for safe and loving homes.  I saw Addie’s picture and thought maybe she was the one. Her caption read “Can you say perfect dog” and that was spot on!
Russell Rescue took great care to visit our home to see the environment Addie would be living in, and her well-being was their top priority.  Understandably, Addie was a bit hesitant and conservative at first.  She has been with us for 3 months now and what an awesome life we have together!  As she got more comfortable with us, she shared some little tricks that she knows: dancing, sitting up with her paws out, she will even jump thru a hula hoop!  I’m greeted each and every morning with her spunky personality and unconditional love.  She loves riding in the car and of course, our evening walks.  There are 3 little girls that play on their bicycles every evening and Addie ALWAYS has to stop and say hello, get their cookies and dirt kisses, and then we enjoy the rest of our walk.  We end each day snuggled together in the recliner, so thankful for our new life together!”
